Resort Cursdorf

Welcome to Cursdorf - pure nature in the Thuringian Forest

The Historical Glass Apparatus Museum was founded on October 29, 1999. Today it is located in the village community center of the Cursdorf community, in the highest town in the mountain railway region near the Rennsteig in the southern Thuringian Forest.
Experience for yourself how former physics teaching aids are shown in their function here - unique to this extent in Germany.
Marvel at the fascinating effects of the various tubes.
In 1876, Robert Götze, who was born and raised in Cursdorf and was a student of Heinrich Geißler, set up his own business in the university town of Leipzig. He brought his nephews, the Preßler brothers, from Cursdorf and trained them.
At the turn of the century, Otto Preßler founded their own companies in Leipzig and Rudolf Preßler in Cursdorf. These three companies made a name for themselves worldwide in the fields of thermometry, X-ray technology, gas discharge physics and photoelectronics as well as through the production of high-quality physics teaching materials.
These tubes, made here in Cursdorf with exceptional craftsmanship, can be admired in their own museum in the newly designed village community center. They are not only shown but – unique to this extent in Germany – demonstrated in their function. Marvel at the fascinating effects of the various tubes!

Welcome to the House of Nature in Goldisthal

The natural experience for young and old to participate in.
The 3-storey half-timbered building of the former 18th century inn “Zum meine Mann” has been lovingly restored and now serves in a new function to rediscover nature as our partner. The exhibition in the “Haus der Natur” is child-friendly and conveys environmental education in a playful way.
The focus of the exhibition is the forest. This is presented in an eventful and sensual way. Scientifically based, but understandable for young and old, the exhibition conveys special forest experiences using a variety of aids.
The history of the region from gold mining, the charcoal burners, to the use of water power for mills or today's energy production is presented in a clear way in the House of Nature.
The walk through the exhibition is accompanied by various games, listening stations with regional legends, videos and animations.

Fröbelmuseum Oberweißbach
In Friedrich Fröbel's birthplace, the pretty half-timbered house on the market, the old tradition of selling antiques has come to life again.
The creaking wooden stairs of the approximately 400-year-old building lead up to the museum, which is dedicated to the great preschool teacher and founder of kindergartens. In an exhibition, the guest learns a lot of interesting facts about the life and work of the city's greatest son and the world-renowned preschool teacher. The toys on display, folding, braiding and threading techniques and much more, always bring back beautiful childhood memories for adults. The little guests can let their imagination run wild while playing with wooden building blocks or tablets. Trying out Fröbel's folding techniques is always a nice and interesting challenge.
The in-house Olitätstubchen provides information about the use of local medicinal herbs and reveals many secrets of the remedies.
On the ground floor there is a tourist information office and a shop with a wide range of Fröbel's toys and activities, wooden toys and much more.
